Wilcox Medical Center has been recognized by Healthgrades for clinical excellence in specialty services. Healthgrades, a leading online platform that connects patients to doctors and hospitals nationwide, has awarded Wilcox a five-star rating for hip fracture treatment for the fourth year in a row (2022-2025). In addition, the medical center received five stars for gallbladder removal surgery.
“We’re grateful to receive these accolades from Healthgrades,” Jen Chahanovich, president and CEO of Wilcox Medical Center and CEO of Kauai Medical Clinic, said. “Wilcox Medical Center is proud of the high-quality care we provide, and this recognition reflects our commitment to the community.”
As part of its 2025 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care.
Healthgrades’ 2025 analysis revealed that if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021-2023 study period, on average, 224,958 lives could potentially have been saved and 141,692 complications could potentially have been avoided.* From 2021-2023, patients having hip fracture treatment in hospitals with five stars had, on average, a 54.8% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals with one star.* During that same time frame, patients having gallbladder removal surgery at hospitals with five stars had, on average, a 60.2% lower risk of experiencing a complication than if they were treated by hospitals with one star.*
