Fall River widow says COVID-19 vaccine ‘would have saved’ husband’s life
Updated: 6:27 PM EDT Aug 23, 2021
On the day U.S. regulators granted full approval to a COVID-19 vaccination, a Massachusetts widow is sharing her family’s sad story to encourage others to get the jab. “I want people to know his story because I think it can save a lot of people’s lives,” Cathleen Cesar said about her husband, Jonathan. Jonathan, 29, a father of three from Fall River, died last month from COVID-19. He was never vaccinated. “His feeling about COVID was like the flu, you will be sick and then you will be fine,” Cathleen recalled. But he wasn’t fine. After testing positive on July 12, he went to the hospital and left a voicemail for his wife. “When I first got here they took pictures and I don’t have pneumonia, but I can’t breathe for nothing,” he said. Eventually, as his breathing worsened, he was intubated. Two weeks after the diagnosis, he died of the virus. “It’s heartbreaking. It would have saved his life. It would have saved his life if he had gotten the vaccine,” said Cathleen.Cathleen also tested positive COVID-19 but recovered without any complications. She plans to get vaccinated next month.
