University of Arizona Wildcat Hockey will host the seventh annual “Pink the Rink” game to promote cancer awareness on Thursday, Jan. 27, when they play Arizona State University at the Tucson Arena. Proceeds from the game benefit the UArizona Cancer Center.

Oncologist Aaron J. Scott, MD, will represent the UArizona Cancer Center at the ceremonial puck drop. The Pink the Rink game is highlighted by a special commemorative jersey program through which community members can purchase a jersey to be personalized with the name of a loved one. A Wildcat player will wear the jersey during the game and then present the jersey to the purchaser during a post-game program featuring stories of those being honored. Honorees may include cancer victims, cancer survivors and individuals battling the disease, as well as caretakers, volunteers and others who have dedicated their careers to battling cancer.

The commemorative game jerseys are $250, and all proceeds benefit UArizona Cancer Center research. A limited number of jerseys are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be purchased online.

Aaron J. Scott, MD, an oncologist specializing in translational research and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, has been selected to represent the UArizona Cancer Center for the ceremonial puck drop. Dr. Scott is a member of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Multidisciplinary Program at the Cancer Center and an assistant professor of medicine in the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson.

“I am so excited and honored to be a part of the Pink the Rink program. It has been part of the Cancer Center’s mission to raise awareness for all the great work that we’re doing to prevent and cure cancer,” said Dr. Scott, a UArizona alumnus who has been attending Arizona Wildcat hockey games since he was a child. “The generous support and donations we raise through this game will help advance and contribute to our mission, giving back to those affected by cancer in our own community in Tucson.”

General admission tickets are $16 and can be purchased at Arizonawildcathockey.org or at the door on game day. Admission is free for UArizona students with a CatCard, kids up to age 12, members of the military and seniors. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink.

“We’re excited to be back after the pandemic put us on hiatus in 2021. The Pink the Rink game is something we look forward to every year,” said head hockey coach Chad Berman. “It’s more than a hockey game. It’s our way to do good in our own community, and we’re very proud of that.”
