Tips on surviving allergy season in Alabama

Pollen
count
numbers
for
the
Montgomery
area
are
very
high
and
will
remain
that
way
for
the
next
few
weeks.
But
with
some
tips,
you
can
avoid
being
miserable
if
allergies
affect
you.

The
pollen
count
is
a
measure
of
the
pollen
density
in
the
air.
Right
now,
tree,
grass
and
ragweed
are
the
worst
offenders.

spoke
with
Allergist
Dr.
Hugh
Frazer,
who
has
tips
to
help
manage
your
allergic
outbreaks.

He
recommends
showering
after
being
outdoors
to
remove
the
pollen
that
has
gotten
on
your
clothes.
Also,
minimize
indoor
pollen
by
keeping
your
windows
shut
and
using
air
conditioning
or
a
HEPA
air
purifier
to
filter
allergens.

You
can
also
check
the
weather
and
learn
when
conditions,
such
as
the
wind,
will
increase
pollen
levels
by
blowing
it
in
the
air.

“We
are
definitely
having
longer,
hotter
seasons
which
leads
to
earlier
pollen
exposure
and
a
greater
amount
as
well,
and
then
the
longer,
hotter
seasons
of
course,
you’re
going
to
see
more
mold
as
well.
If
you
are
allergic
to
mold
that’s
a
problem,
too,”
Dr.
Frazer
said.

He
says
he
sees
at
least
25
patients
a
day
that
have
been
affected
by
these
high
pollen
counts
and
related
allergic
reactions.
