The Southern Nevada Health District reminds everyone that COVID-19 testing is available at locations throughout the community. People seeking testing should visit one of the many community sites rather than visiting a hospital emergency department for testing. The Health District recently expanded its testing site hours at three College of Southern Nevada locations and mobile testing units and kiosks are scheduled for local libraries and community centers. With the current increase in COVID-19 cases and influenza season, it is important to keep emergency departments from becoming overwhelmed with individuals seeking COVID-19 testing. People who are experiencing severe illness that can include trouble breathing, persistent pain or chest pressure, new confusion, inability to wake up or stay aware, or has blue lips, should seek immediate medical care.
“It is important to keep our health care system from becoming overwhelmed as we see increases in COVID-19 cases at this time of year,” said Dr. Fermin Leguen, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District. “We continue to encourage COVID-19 testing, especially for people who have symptoms or who have had recent travel during the holidays. It is also important to get vaccinated against COVID-19, to complete the appropriate vaccine series, and to get a booster dose when eligible.”
The Southern Nevada Health District is working with partners to evaluate current testing needs in the community based on increased demand. Any updated information about testing will be provided and posted on our website as well. While walk-ins are accepted, they are based on availability and might not be available at all sites. We encourage people seeking testing to check our website frequently for open appointments.
People who have mild symptoms of COVID-19 should stay home and self-isolate for five days after their test. If they continue to be asymptomatic, they can leave isolation but must wear a mask for five more days.
