Southern Nevada Health District COVID-19 Update

Date

LAS VEGAS – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated guidance is aligned with the Southern Nevada Health District’s previous recommendation for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people to wear masks in crowded indoor public places where they may have contact with others who are not fully vaccinated. Current Health District guidelines for schools recommend that all students and personnel wear masks during high levels of community transmission. The Health District’s recommendations were made in response to increasing case counts and the COVID-19 positivity rate in Clark County. Per State of Nevada Emergency Directive 045, Nevada’s statewide face-covering requirements are based on the recommendations issued by the CDC.

Today, the Health District is reporting 276,934 cases of COVID-19 in Clark County, an increase of 951 since yesterday and 17 deaths, bringing the total to 4,653. More information, including daily case counts, is available on the Health District COVID-19 dashboard at www.snhd.info/covid-cases.

While using masks correctly has proven to be effective in helping to prevent people from getting and spreading COVID-19, the best most effective step people can take to protect themselves is to get fully vaccinated. The spread of the Delta variant makes getting vaccinated more important than ever. The COVID-19 vaccines prevent severe illness, hospitalizations and deaths. The vaccines are safe, effective, free, and available at community clinics and pharmacies throughout Southern Nevada. Upcoming Health District and community partner vaccination clinics can be found at www.snhd.info/covid-vaccine. Additional community vaccination site locations can also be found at NVCOVIDFighter.org. The site features live chat support to assist with scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine appointment and accessing information about the vaccine.

As of Monday, July 27, 2,128,937 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Clark County. Additional vaccine updates for Clark County include:

  • Vaccinations initiated: 1,234,064
    • Overall: 53.23 percent
    • 18 and older: 66.34 percent
    • 12 years and older: 60.91 percent
  • Vaccinations completed: 993,726
    • Overall: 42.87 percent
    • 18 and older: 54.18 percent
    • 12 years and older 48.76 percent

Testing also remains an important part of the community’s mitigation strategy, and the Health District and its partners are offering COVID-19 testing throughout the community. People who are sick should stay home and get tested if they have symptoms related to COVID-19. People who are unvaccinated and have taken part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19, such as traveling or attending mass gatherings should also get tested. Health District testing location information is available at www.snhd.info/covid-testing. Community testing location information is available at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/find-covid-19-testing-in-nevada/.
