I voted for Betsy Johnson in the election because she was willing to put Measure 110 before the voters to repeal it, (“Oregon governor candidate Betsy Johnson announces endorsements from 24 current district attorneys,” Sept. 8). Had Christine Drazan won, she would have done the same. It is a failed experiment.
I have seen way more drug casualties on our streets around Eugene and Portland and I have also seen an increase in blatant drug dealing. We have organized criminal gangs here in our state. I blame Measure 110 for this, because where you have addicts you are going to have suppliers. I did not vote for Tina Kotek because she said nothing about taking any steps to repeal this misguided law.
The reason for much of the chaos on the streets is because of meth, heroin and fentanyl addictions. Decriminalizing these substances brought dealers and theft on the part of the addicts who pay them for another fix to our communities. This needs to stop. Now that Tina Kotek has been elected governor, she needs to look at this for what it is: A major source of the problem plaguing our communities. She needs to do something about it.
Let the voters decide they have had enough of Measure 110 and repeal it so the laws can be enforced again. That will go a long way to addressing the source of the negative issues facing many communities in our state.
