Medical teams at Straub Benioff Medical Center recently gained an innovative teammate that truly delivers. Pharm2-D2 is Straub Benioff’s new service robot that safely and securely moves medication from the medical center’s pharmacy to nursing stations for patients in the hospital. Straub Benioff is the first medical center in Hawaii to utilize this autonomous robot, which supports health care teams by eliminating the need for them to leave their areas to deliver medications.
“Straub Benioff has been known for a long history of medical and technical innovation,” said Travis Clegg, Straub Benioff chief operating officer. “I’m so proud of our team for thinking outside the box and looking at ways to bring in new technology that not only improves efficiency but will also bring smiles to our staff and patients as it roves the halls of the hospital.”
Pharmacists place prescriptions into Pharm2-D2’s storage area, which then remains secure until authorized Straub Benioff employees unlock it.
Straub Benioff staff got their first look at Pharm2-D2 as technical teams helped it map out the medical center’s floor plans. The robot uses sensors to navigate through the hallways, lobbies, and around people and other objects to make deliveries. It can even operate elevators and will be on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
