MARIA: THE CDC SAYS IT’S STILL TOO SOON TO REMOVE FACE MASKS INDOORS, EVEN AS MASSACHUSETTS AND OTHER STATES DROP MORE COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS. HERE TO SHARE HIS EXPERT ADVICE IS DR. TODD ELLERIN, CHIEF OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES AT SOUTH SHORE HEALTH ED: WEOW NAV HE A DATE, FEBRUARY 28, WHEN THE STATE WILL NO LONGER REQUIRE MASKS INSIDE PUBLIC SCHOOLS. INSTEAD, LOCAL DISTRICTS WILL DECIDE WHAT THEY WANT TO DO. WHAT KIND OF DATA SHOULD THEY CONSID? >> TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK. THERE’S SUCH DEBATE AROUND THIS AND CONTROVERSY. ONE OF THE RSONS,EA MASKS HAVE WORKED SO WELL TO PROTECT OUR KIDS. I ABSOLUTELY AGREE THAT RIGHT NOW, CASES ARE TOO HIGH. WE’RE STILL ABOVE WHERE W WERE WITH THE DELTA VARIANT AS FAR AS NUMBER OF CASES. RIGHT NOW NOT THE TIME TO REMOVE MASKS. VERNORGO BAKER ANDIS H TEAM SEEING DECLINE NUMBER IN CES ASAND HOSPITALIZATIONS AND PREDICTING THELLY’ BE LOW ENOHUG LEVEL. REMEMBER, DOING AWAY WITH MASK MANDATES IS NOTHE T SAME AS SAYING OUR KIDS SHOULD NOT WEAR A MASKS IN SCHOOLS. THAT SHOULD BE AN INDIVIDLUA DECISION AND DECISION LEFT TO THE DISTRICTS AND SCHLOO SYSTEMS. ED: WHEN YOU SAY INDIVIDUAL, YOU MEAN LIKE INDIVIDUAL FAMILY? EVEN DOWN TO THAT LEVEL? >> ABSOLUTELY. IF YOU HAVE A VULNERABLE CHILD, YOU THINK THERE’S MORE CASES THAT ARE NECESSARY, IF YOUE’R HAVE AN ANXIOUS CHILD DOING BETTER WEARING A MASK, I HOPE THAT CHILD CONTINUES TO WEAR A MASK EVEN LONG AFTER THESE MKAS MANDATES ARE A THING OF THE PAST. MARIA: AS YOU KNOW, FACE MASK MANDATES ARE VERY CONTROVERSIAL, NOT JUST FOR PARENTS AND SCHOOLS, BUT NOW IT APPEARS, FOR DOCTORS AS WL.EL THE CDC AND AMERICAN ACADEMYF O PEDIATRICS CONTINUE TO SAY, KEEP MASKS ON. OTHER HEALTH EXPERTS ARE TELNGLI GOVERNORS, IT’S NOW SAFE TO TAKE THEM OFF. WHOSE ADVICE SHOULD WE TAKE? >> LET ME TELLOU Y WHAT I WILL DO AS A PARENT. NOT AUSTIN AS AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE EXPERT, I REALLY LISTEN RYVE CAREFULLY TO THE CDC AND THE MAJOR ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS. THEY KNOW BEST. THE MASK MANDATES MAY BE GONE ON FEBRUARY 28th. IF AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS ARE STILL RECOMMENDING THEM,E W WILL REALLY — WE’LL TALK TOGETHER, WE’LL WANT OUR KSID TO KEEP THEIR MKSAS ON. ED: THERE’S A NEW REPORT FROM LONDON THAT PRINCE CHARLES HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN MAY OF 20. IS THAT UNUSUAL, TO GET INFECTED AGAIN, ESPECIALLY FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS ENBE VACCINATED AND BOOSD? >> IT’S NOT UNUSUAL AT ALL. THERE WAS A STUDY FROM THE U.K. THAT SHOWED THE OMICR VARIANT REINFECTION WAS FIVE TIMES HIGHERHA TN DTAEL. OMICRON CAN INVADE OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. REMEMBER VACCINES ARE STILL AND BOOSRSTE ARE SO IMPORTANT. THEY REDUCE INFECTION. THESE VARIANTS ARE GETTING BETTER AT EVADING OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. IT’S NOT SURPRISING. THE GOOD NEWS HE’S DOING WELL. WE’RE HEARING THAT THE QUEEN DOESN’T HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS AT THIS POINT. IT’S GOOD NEWS. REMEMBER THE VACCINES WHAT THEY DO BEST IS REDUCE SEVERE INFECTION. THATEALLY R
