Jimmy Fund Walk returning this fall after pandemic hiatus

Date

The biggest single-day fundraising walk in the country, the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, is returning to an in-person format this year after a pandemic hiatus. “We’ve been the same as everybody in this virtual world for the last couple of years and I think we’re looking forward to being able to give our walkers the opportunity to come together,” said Zack Blackburn, director of the Jimmy Fund Walk. On Sunday, Oct. 2, walkers will gather along the marathon route to walk a 5K, 10K, half marathon or full 26.2-mile distance in support of the Jimmy Fund’s lifesaving mission. The funds raised support research and patient care at Dana Farber.”The beauty of the jimmy fund is the community its all of us. It’s me, it’s you, it’s our walkers, it’s our donors, it’s our patients — we’re all Jimmy,” Blackburn said.Despite the pandemic, fundraising efforts never slowed down. About $7.1 million was raised last year. Organizers hope to beat that total this year. Their goal is $7.5 million. “We always say if you come out and do this event one time it’s really hard to not want to keep doing it. It’s just such a contagious emotional uplifting day,” Blackburn said. About 7,500 people are expected to attend and participate. To sign up or organize a team, register at JimmyFundWalk.org.
