Illinois sees uptick in COVID-19 hospitalizations, decrease in cases – Health News Illinois

As of Tuesday, 1,138 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, down 61 from Monday and up 55 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 120 were in intensive care units, down five from Monday and up 18 from the prior week. Twenty-one percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, up one percentage point from the prior week.

There were 35 patients on ventilators, up two from Monday and up two from the prior week.

Eight counties are rated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as having a “high” risk of community spread which recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Thirty-nine counties are at medium levels, meaning those at high risk or spending time around people who are at high risk should wear masks indoors.

IDPH reported 6,406 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths on Wednesday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,274,360, while the death toll is at 33,796.

The seven-day average for new cases on Wednesday was 5,296, down 710 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is nine, up three from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 41.6, down 5.5 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 22,270,391 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,502,411 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 13,957.
