As of Tuesday, 1,105 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, down 13 from Monday and down 39 from the prior week.
Of the patients in the hospital, 117 were in intensive care units, down four from Monday and down 12 from the prior week. Twenty percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, down 1 percentage point from the prior week.
There were 39 patients on ventilators, up three from Monday and up five from the prior week.
Twenty Illinois counties are at a “high” community level of COVID-19, the level at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Forty-seven counties are at a “medium” risk level.
IDPH reported 4,645 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths on Wednesday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,425,979, while the death toll is at 34,124.
The seven-day average for new cases on Wednesday was 3,979, up 141 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 12, up one from the prior week.
The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 31.2, up 1.1 from the prior week.
Illinois vaccinators have administered 22,651,231 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,606,529 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 10,414.
