Health Insider Valley woman advocates for breast cancer awareness year-round Nick Ciletti

Date

Raising
awareness
for
breast
cancer
doesn’t
just
have
to
happen
in
October,
says
a
Valley
woman
who
helps
coordinate
events
throughout
the
year
to
educate
people
about
the
disease.

Earlier
this
summer,
ABC15’s
Nick
Ciletti
met
Bonnie
Ramos.
Ramos
created
the
group,
“Breast
Cancer
Awareness
Events,”
with
the
mission
of
making
sure
both
women
(and
men)
know
that
breast
cancer
can
be
diagnosed
every
single
day
of
the
year

and
therefore,
discussed
every
single
day
of
the
year,
too.

“People
know
about
it
in
October,
and
then
it’s
kind
of
like
it
gets
pushed
to
the
back,”
explains
Ramos.
“And
it’s
not
remembered
anymore…it
affects
everybody
every
day
the
whole
year.
It
shouldn’t
be
a
one-month
thing.
It
should
be
an
all-year
event.”

According
to
the
most
recent
data
from
the
Arizona
Department
of
Health
Services,
more
than
5,000
women
in
our
state

on
average

are
diagnosed
with
breast
cancer
each
year.

According
to
the
American
Cancer
Society,
more
than
2,600
men
in
the
U.S.
are
diagnosed
with
invasive
breast
cancer
annually.
