Two local physicians have joined the Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Group. Drs. Ronson Sato and Sheri Shimizu-Saito are both graduates of Iolani School and the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), and each brings more than a decade of experience to the Department of Pulmonology at Straub Medical Center.
Board certified in pulmonary disease and sleep medicine, Sato earned his medical degree from JABSOM and completed his residency in internal medicine in Hawaii. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at University of California’s Irvine Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in sleep medicine at Stanford University before returning home.
“My goal has always been to take care of my family, friends and the people of Hawaii,” Sato said. “I feel fortunate to live here and have the privilege of serving the community.”
Sato was born and raised in Pearl City. When he isn’t caring for patients, Sato enjoys fishing, exercising and spending time with his two young children and family.
Shimizu-Saito also grew up in Pearl City. She completed her residency in internal medicine in Hawaii before completing a fellowship at The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. In addition, she holds a master’s degree in public health epidemiology and is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease.
“I am proud to join Straub’s skilled and advanced team in using the latest technologies to help patients with a wide range of lung and respiratory diseases and conditions,” Shimizu-Saito said. “I enjoy working with patients and their families on personalized care plans to achieve the best possible health outcome.”
Shimizu-Saito served as a physician and major in the Hawai‘i National Guard for 10 years. She also has taught judo for several organizations, including the Aiea Hongwanji Judo Club. Now she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family, which often includes watching her three children play sports.
