News Picture: Freeze-Dried Organic Blueberries Recalled Due to Lead Levels

THURSDAY, July 21, 2022

Certain 1.2-ounce Natierra Organic Freeze-Dried Blueberry pouches have been recalled in the United States because of possible lead contamination.

The recall of two lots by manufacturer BrandStorm Inc. is due to lead levels above the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s recommended limits.

“People with high levels of lead in their blood may show no symptoms, but the condition may cause damage to the nervous system and internal organs,” the company said in a statement. Acute lead poisoning can result in a wide range of symptoms, including stomach pain, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss and bloody or decreased urinary output. Children are particularly vulnerable to lead poisoning.

So far, no reports of illness have been reported.

The recalled blueberries, which originated in Lithuania, were distributed nationally through retail and online stores. The issue is isolated to lots # 2021363-1 and # 2022026-1 with the best by dates 12/2024 and 01/2025.

The company advises consumers not to eat the recalled products. They should throw them away and request a refund by calling 310-559-0259, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. PST.
