Medical minds have the run of Portland’s sprawling Veterans Affairs Medical Center, but the heart of the place might just be found in Room 115, a windowless office down a hallway in Building 101.
Barbara Weatherill oversees the front desk at volunteer services, a part of the medical center’s development and civic office. The 93-year-old widow, who volunteers three days a week, has been coming to this room for 33 years.
