COVID-19 hospitalizations see one-day spike, cases continue decline – Health News Illinois

As of Tuesday, 1,261 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 98 from Monday and up 123 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 127 were in intensive care units, up 18 from Monday and up seven from the prior week. Twenty-three percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, up 2 percentage points from the prior week.

There were 39 patients on ventilators, down nine from Monday and up four from the prior week.

Fifteen Illinois counties are now at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “high” COVID-19 transmission risk, which recommends that people mask indoors in public spaces. An additional 30 counties are now rated at the “medium” risk level.

IDPH reported 4,347 new COVID-19 cases and 22 death on Wednesday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,306,763, while the death toll is at 33,836.

The seven-day average for new cases on Wednesday was 4,629, down 667 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is six, down three from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 36.3, down 5.3 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 22,366,235 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,529,568 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 12,945.
