Illinoisans hospitalized with COVID-19 have dropped below 1,000 for the first time since last summer.

As of Sunday, 943 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, down 28 from Saturday and down 340 from the prior week. The 971 hospitalizations reported Saturday were the lowest since 977 were reported on Aug. 1.

Of the patients in the hospital on Sunday, 157 were in intensive care units, down 22 from Saturday and down 78 from the prior week. There were 82 patients on ventilators, down four from Saturday and down 39 from the prior week.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,159 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths on Monday.

The new cases bring the state total to 3,031,220, while the death toll increased to 32,763.

The seven-day average for new cases on Monday was 1,831, down 545 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 51, down four from the prior week.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 1.7 percent. The seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 2 percent.

About 80.7 percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 5 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 71.6 percent are fully vaccinated.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 21,106,414 COVID-19 vaccines, per state data, including 4,147,259 booster doses. The seven-day average of doses administered is 13,807.
