COVID-19 cases decline, ICU use rises – Health News Illinois

As of Sunday, 1,421 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 45 from Saturday and down 31 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 198 were in intensive care units, up 22 from Saturday and up 50 from the prior week. Twenty percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, up 2 percentage points from the prior week.

There were 62 patients on ventilators, down eight from Saturday and up 13 from the prior week.

Forty-two counties are now at a “high” community level of COVID-19, the level at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Forty-eight counties are at a “medium” risk level.

The Department of Public Health reported 2,525 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths on Monday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,629,276, while the death toll remains at 34,549.

The seven-day average for new cases on Monday was 3,590, down 732 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 17, up seven from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 28.2, down 5.7 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 23,131,979 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,719,988 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 8,348.
