Coronavirus in Oregon: 901 cases, as people who aren’t fully vaccinated account for 69% of recent cases

Date

The Oregon Health Authority reported 901 newly known cases of COVID-19 Thursday, representing no significant change from recent weeks. Cases over the past three weeks have fluctuated from day to day, but generally have held steady.

The state also reported 38 COVID-19 deaths, some of which are likely from previous months.

Thursday, the state released its latest breakthrough report, which shows about 69% of known weekly COVID-19 cases occurred in Oregonians who are unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated. That’s about 3 ½ times the rate of infection as in fully vaccinated people, and is consistent with trends over the past six weeks.

Fully vaccinated people also are far less likely to be hospitalized and die.

Where the new cases are by county: Baker (2), Benton (16), Clackamas (94), Clatsop (8), Columbia (11), Coos (34), Crook (13), Deschutes (55), Douglas (43), Grant (2), Harney (4), Hood River (9), Jackson (57), Jefferson (8), Josephine (13), Klamath (13), Lane (61), Lincoln (9), Linn (69), Malheur (4), Marion (88), Morrow (2), Multnomah (127), Polk (23), Tillamook (8), Umatilla (6), Wallowa (1), Wasco (7), Washington (92) and Yamhill (22).

Deaths: State officials didn’t provide information Thursday about the ages and home counties of those who died. Officials said they will release that information later.

Hospitalizations: 404 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, seven more than Wednesday. That number includes 94 people in intensive care units, six fewer than the previous day.

Vaccines: The state reported 4,524 people receiving first shots since Wednesday.

Since it began: Oregon has reported 399,361 confirmed or presumed infections and 5,356 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 6,308,460 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,706,196 people and partially vaccinating 275,091 people.
