PHOENIX — One of Arizona’s oldest and largest child welfare and behavioral health nonprofit agencies recently opened a new office in Phoenix that will house its expanded behavioral health services.
The Arizona Children’s Association will be able to serve up to 1,400 people at the new office at 4524 N. Maryvale Parkway that opened in March, according to a press release.
Behavioral health services of the agency, which provides children with mental health resources, are strength-based and will guide individuals and families in heightened social-emotional states who have been impacted by trauma and abuse through the healing process.
“The COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine shed light on how important mental health is for all of us,” Jacob Schmitt, president and CEO of the agency, said in the release.
“It illuminated how loss, isolation and grief can take a huge mental toll, and we wanted to provide additional resources to help Arizona’s families endure life’s challenging moments.”
Those who receive help at the new location will have access to individual therapy, family therapy, sand tray and art therapy, psychiatric services, behavioral coaching, independent living skills coaching and family support.
The office currently employs just over 50 people, but is still looking to add members to the team, according to the release.

The agency was founded in 1912 and assists more than 40,000 children, youth and families each year across all of Arizona’s 15 counties, according to the official website.
