C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital tops state rankings, earns national honors from U.S. News & World Report

Date

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital is the top-ranked children’s hospital in the state and one of the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Mott is the only Michigan hospital nationally ranked in all 10 evaluated pediatric specialties in the 2021-22 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings released June 15.  In addition to earning the No.1 ranking for Michigan, Mott is rated a top three hospital in the Midwest in the debut year of state and regional rankings.

The annual report names the top 50 pediatric health care facilities out of more than 115 medical centers assessed in the United States.

This honor reflects the dedication of Mott physicians, researchers, nurses and staff who commit themselves to providing exceptional care to children with complex medical conditions, said Luanne Thomas Ewald, FACHE, M.H.A., chief operating officer at Mott and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital.

“The specialty care we provide, accompanied by innovative research across many disciplines, is why families from all over the country come to us for their children’s medical needs,” Ewald said.

Mott was among 22 pediatric facilities nationwide to be recognized all 10 of these specialties:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiology and Heart Surgery
  • Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
  • Neonatology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Pulmonology and Lung Surgery
  • Urology

The U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals rankings are based on relevant clinical data from early 2020 (due to the pandemic) and surveys from thousands of pediatric specialists. Working groups use a methodology that factors in measures such as patient outcomes, available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.

“The COVID-19 pandemic tested the strength of health care providers, and these rankings are one indication that our team met every challenge, maintaining the highest quality care for our patients,” said Chris Dickinson, M.D., Mott’s chief clinical officer. “Our exceptional care and advanced research will continue leading Michigan children toward healthy outcomes, as we work to beat this virus.”
