Why is ADHD often overlooked in adults, especially women?

Date

This is the time of year where we hear a lot about planning, setting goals and following up on them.

But these can be very hard things to do for adults with undiagnosed ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder).

Many adults, especially women, suffer from brain fog, planning paralysis, stress and other symptoms of ADHD without knowing why daily responsibilities seem so daunting.

This comes as the U.S. faces an Adderall shortage — a drug that is often used to treat the condition.

Coming up at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, MPR News host Angela Davis talks with a journalist who was diagnosed in her 30s with ADHD and a psychiatrist who pioneered treating ADHD in adults with mindfulness techniques. They’ll talk about the signs of ADHD in girls and women, how it’s diagnosed, and some tips to help manage the condition.

And we want to hear from you too. Do you have ADHD? How did you discover it? And how does knowing this help you understand yourself better? Call us at 651-227-6000 or 800-242-2828 during the 9 a.m. hour or tweet your questions at @AngelaDavisMPR.
