Active cases rise above 8,000 for second time in pandemic

Active COVID-19 cases hit a new high Thursday in New Hampshire, with health officials saying there are once again more than 8,000 known cases in the state.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New Hampshire now has the highest seven-day rate of new cases in the country, with 505.4 cases per 100,000 residents. New Hampshire is followed by Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.Health officials said Thursday there are 8,251 known COVID-19 cases in New Hampshire, up from the previous high of 8,048 set last month.In Massachusetts, the CDC reports a seven-day new case rate of 290.1 per 100,000 residents. The Department of Public Health reported 5,170 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the biggest single-day report since mid-January.
